much alike statues

Much alike statues‭, ‬antique furniture is symbolic of the fixed ideas of a particular community‭, ‬in a particular moment in time‭. ‬Yet‭, ‬as the present moves further from the past‭, ‬so do our ideas‭, ‬values and ethics‭. ‬Artefacts that have long been markers of wealth‭, ‬status‭, ‬self-identity or taste‭, ‬later reveal the imperial tendencies of a countries past‭. ‬The cabinet overlays political iconography of the present on the husk of the imperial past as an attempt to deface classical antiquitous values‭. ‬Through mimicking traditional cabinetry techniques‭, ‬the result is a plea for progression over conservation‭. ‬
