much alike statues
Much alike statues, antique furniture is symbolic of the fixed ideas of a particular community, in a particular moment in time. Yet, as the present moves further from the past, so do our ideas, values and ethics. Artefacts that have long been markers of wealth, status, self-identity or taste, later reveal the imperial tendencies of a countries past. The cabinet overlays political iconography of the present on the husk of the imperial past as an attempt to deface classical antiquitous values. Through mimicking traditional cabinetry techniques, the result is a plea for progression over conservation.
