Much alike statues, antique furniture is symbolic of the fixed ideas of a particular community, in a particular moment in time. Yet, as the present moves further from the past, so do our ideas, values and ethics. Artefacts that have long been markers of wealth, status, self-identity or taste, later reveal the imperial tendencies of a countries past. Through mimicking traditional cabinetry techniques, the piece seeks a progressive material culture over one commonly admired with a lens tinted in the past.
